Brazil are fancied more than any other side to lift the Jules Rimet trophy in Moscow on July 15. But every journey starts with a first step, and they will first need to negotiate a capable Switzerland side on Sunday. Can they take care of business? Let’s take a look in our Brazil vs Switzerland betting tips.
It has been a long road back for the Brazilians, whose great hopes of winning the World Cup of 2014 on home soil ended in embarrassment and that infamous 1-7 defeat at the hands of Germany.
Dunga has since left his position as head coach and been replaced by Tite, a man who seems to have rediscovered the Brazilian football identity.
They lost just one of eighteen games in qualifying, and scored a whopping 41 goals. It’s all well and good having world-class attacking talents, but you still have to find a way to harness them – something that South American neighbours Argentina have largely failed with.
Neymar is in Russia, he is fit and in truth he is just the tip of the iceberg in an uber-talented squad jampacked with creative stars.
Can Switzerland live with them? They kept six clean sheets in qualifying, that will help, but can you expect to keep Brazil at bay for 90 minutes? Perhaps not, and the Swiss will need to find a way to stretch their opponents at the other end of the pitch too.
So will Sunday’s clash turn into a one-sided affair, or can the Europeans put up a fight? Let’s find out with our Brazil vs Switzerland betting tips.

Brazil vs Switzerland Betting Tips
Neymar left, Willian right, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino through the middle. Or Gabriel Jesus. Or Paulinho.
One of the keys to winning a World Cup is having squad depth and options; rotation and covering injuries/suspensions is key.
Brazil have got them in spades, and actually some of the players who will sit on the bench on Sunday would walk into this Switzerland side.
They are no mugs defensively either, with four consecutive clean sheets kept in friendlies and 10 in 18 qualifiers. They are proof positive that if you keep possession of the ball, the other team can’t score.
The vast majority of this Brazil squad play their club football in Europe – there are no problems with acclimatisation here – and there can be no doubt they are a live favourite to win World Cup 2018.
Swiss Won’t Roll Over
The best quality of this Switzerland side is that they will be tough to beat; a quality that will be essential against the Brazilians.
They have a decent enough back four – new Arsenal man Stephan Lichtsteiner and left back Ricardo Rodriguez are more than capable performers, while the midfield area will be patrolled by Granit Xhaka and Valon Behrami.
There will be little to come from them the other way – Xherdan Shaqiri is their best attacking outlet – and indeed other than the Stoke winger the Swiss’ next highest goalscorer is Haris Seferovic with a less-than-prolific 12 in 51 appearances.
A decent workout for Brazil then, and they will be rarely troubled by a Swiss side intent on damage limitation. At 1/3 the Brazilians are unbackable, but you can take them to Win to Nil at a generous 21/20 (2.10).
Finding ways in which to support Neymar and co in our Brazil vs Switzerland betting tips is tricky, but we might just have found some value.
Switzerland may be able to keep Brazil at bay….but for how long? The South Americans’ almost constant pressure and possession will tell – back Brazil to score Over 1.5 second half goals at Evens (2.00) with William Hill.
